About Jim Donovan

Jim Donovan is a professional drummer and percussionist, a recording artist, writer, teacher and lecturer. He is best known as the former drummer and one of the founding members of the band Rusted Root. He is also the author of the book Drum Circle Leadership: Learn to Create and Lead Your Own Transformational Drum Circles.

His insights have been shaped by his studies in African rhythms with various master drummers such as Congolese master drummer Elie Kihonia, Mamady Keita and Mbemba Bangoura. He also studied African music with noted scholar Kwabena Nketia from Ghana.
Jim, who teaches world music and drumming at St. Francis University, started writing songs for a solo project in 2010 and debuted the Sun King Warriors in 2016, sounding more like Led Zeppelin than his former group.

Jim Donovan joins us on April 27th at 12PM EST
for an interesting dive into the depths of mythic living!

Essential Conversations with the Wisdom Keepers of Myth
in Times of Turbulence and Disruption
The Sixth of Our HJF Live Broadcast Series

Dear *|FNAME|*,

Come join us for an enlivening and inspiring one-hour conversation with musician Jim Donovan, hosted by the Hero’s Journey® Foundation. We are offering this broadcast as a free community event, which will be live on Crowdcast, an interactive webcast platform. We will also record and post this event on our website.

Jim Donovan is a professional drummer and guitarist, recording artist, writer, teacher, and lecturer. He is best known as the former drummer and one of the founding members of the band Rusted Root. He is also the author of the book Drum Circle Leadership: Learn to Create and Lead Your Own Transformational Drum Circles.

Jim teaches world music and drumming at St. Francis University.  He started writing songs for a solo project in 2010, and debuted the Sun King Warriors in 2016, sounding more like Led Zeppelin than his former group.

We’ll discuss his own personal experiences with living into the Hero’s Journey myth, and explore all the ways that music has taken him to places that bridge the worlds of spirit and matter.

We’ll also discuss his experiences of drumming at the Men’s Journey Intensives in West Virginia, and how music is an essential part of the next stage of his journey.

Jim Donovan joins us on April 27th at 12:00 PM EST
for an interesting dive into the rhythmic depths of mythic living!

for our free online event.

In our live broadcast, we’ll have our community chat box open for questions, and invite a few viewers to join the broadcast through a live video feed to interact with Jim and myself.

Anna Noack will provide technical support for viewers joining online, and Janet Wepner will host the online community chat during the broadcast.

Jim & I met on a chance encounter in upstate NY 20 years ago, and we’ve maintained a rich friendship since then – so I am especially delighted to have Jim Donovan as our esteemed guest for our next broadcast.

As well, I am looking forward to seeing some familiar names and faces in the community chat room, as well as welcoming those of you who are new to our web broadcast community.

I hope to see you on Saturday, April 27th, 12:00 PM EST!
